AI search for government contractors now shapes which vendors buyers find, alongside SAM.gov and DSBS. Contracting officers, prime contractors and grant managers still search SAM.gov and DSBS. More and more, they also ask Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT and similar tools questions like “Which certified small businesses in Riverside County do HVAC work?” Those tools answer from what they can find and verify about you on the public web.
If your registrations, certifications and website tell different stories, or say nothing at all, you are unlikely to be named.
1. Make your official records match
Use exactly the same legal business name, address and phone number in SAM.gov, DSBS, Cal eProcure, your certifications, your Google Business Profile and your website. Mismatches confuse search tools as well as the government. If your SAM.gov entity data is out of date, fix it first. See UEI and entity validation.
2. Put your credentials on a web page, not only in a PDF
List your UEI, CAGE code, NAICS codes, certifications such as SB, Micro Business, DVBE, DBE, 8(a), HUBZone or WOSB, and your past performance as plain text on your site. A PDF capability statement is useful, but a web page is easier for search engines and AI tools to read. See capability statement writing.
3. Write in the buyer’s language
Describe what you do the way a buyer would search for it: the service, the agency type and the place. For example, “prevailing wage janitorial services for school districts in San Bernardino County” is clearer than “facility solutions”. Spell out acronyms the first time you use them.
4. Answer the questions buyers ask
Add short, factual FAQ sections and keep them current. Remove expired certifications, old contract vehicles and staff who have left. Tools that find outdated information may skip you or repeat the error.
5. Build a consistent footprint
Keep your DSBS profile keyword-rich, your Google Business Profile complete, and your listings in agency and chamber directories consistent. Every matching record makes you easier to verify.
GERC sets up and optimizes SAM.gov, DSBS and Cal eProcure profiles so contracting officers and primes can find you.
