Government contracts in Corona start with registering with the City of Corona. Corona and Norco businesses sit next to some steady public buyers: two cities, a large school district, Riverside County, the State of California and a Navy warfare center. Most local firms have never registered with any of them. Here is where to start.
The City of Corona pays a premium to buy local
The City of Corona gives suppliers located inside city limits a 5% local preference on maintenance, general services, materials, supplies and equipment. It does not apply to public works. The city posts its bids on PlanetBids, so registering there, with accurate commodity codes, is the first step.
Norco and the school district run their own lists
The City of Norco also uses PlanetBids, but as a separate portal, so you register again. Corona-Norco Unified School District posts its solicitations on Bonfire. School districts buy facilities work, supplies, technology, transportation and professional services, often on bond-funded projects.
State certification multiplies your chances
California Small Business (SB) certification is free and gives a 5% bid preference on state contracts. It also makes you valuable to larger primes that must meet California’s 25% SB and 3% DVBE participation goals. Most Corona firms with under $19 million in average receipts and 100 or fewer employees qualify. Registering on Cal eProcure puts you in front of state agencies statewide.
The Navy is next door
Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division is based in Norco. Federal work there, and with the primes that support it, starts with SAM.gov registration, a UEI and a CAGE code. Registration is free and usually takes 7 to 10 business days if your records match.
